2 Thoughts - Results & Accountability
#1: Results Matter
5 Dysfunctions of a Team by Patrick Lencioni talks about the hallmarks of a struggling business: absence of trust, fear of conflict, lack of commitment, avoidance of accountability, and inattention to results.
One of my core values is "Results Matter". We sometimes bring people onto our team for the wrong reasons - we like them, it's a political move, we just needed a body in the seat. And sometimes for the right reasons - their resume was strong, they interviewed well, they came highly recommended.
The key to running a team is to be able to let go of why you brought someone in and to focus on what they are getting done today. Results matter. When results are not being delivered we have to ask ourselves 3 questions:
Am I leading them appropriately - did I clearly define success and give them the tools?
Did I get their buy in to driving these results or did they simply say yes because I'm the boss?
Do they truly have the skills needed to get the results?
#2: One Question to Ask Your Team
Where do you see that we are falling short of our goals and why do you think it's happening?
