2 Thoughts - Help & Specificity
#1: How To Ask For Help
I’ve spent many years helping leaders hit their goals, and I’ve learned one very important lesson - accountability cannot happen without a specific goal.
As this year has evolved, I found myself in a noncommittal period with vague goals. And that’s ok. We all have times where we are evolving and coalescing. At some point though, you’ve got to take shape.
While I was “coalescing”, people would ask how they could help and in my general state I gave a general answer. People wanted to help me but my lack of clarity stalled the process.
In the past few weeks I have found specificity and the results have reminded me how powerful that is. I’ve set a crystal clear goal to land 10 speaking engagements in the next 10 weeks and that has made it so much easier to ask for AND RECEIVE help. I’ve been blessed to be surrounded by a community of people whose default setting is GIVE. When the opportunity to do that is clear and actionable, they show up in a big way.
If you need help with something right now, the first thing you need to do is get specific. Make it easy for people to help you.
#2: One Question From Me to You
What specific goal are you working towards right now? How can I help you hit it?
(PS - unrelated photo from a wedding we attended this weekend. Because everyone should get fancy and share it with the world once in a while!)
