2 Thoughts - Time & Commitment

#1: Time & Commitment

Christmas to me means music in all shapes and sizes.

I had the opportunity to see both my 5th and 10th grader's bands play Christmas concerts, and I was struck by what a difference time and commitment make.

The elementary band was... terrible.  But they had heart, and they are learning.  Their conductor's job is to expose the kids to music, dig in to find who has true talent, and constantly teach and reinforce the fundamentals.

Fast forward a few days to oldest's concert.  She began in the same grade school band and it is astounding to see the difference made by time and commitment.

Their conductor's job is to constantly fan the flames of their passion with his passion, to challenge them with music at the edge of their capability, and to set them free to bring innovation to the table. (One of their songs was a previous student's arrangement and it was stunning!  I couldn't believe a high schooler was capable of that!)

As leaders we manage organizations at all sizes.  From the small teams where you are the only innovator and educator, and your fledgling team requires constant reinforcement and training, to big organizations where you will have standout leaders that you must learn to empower so they can innovate and educate their people.

#2: One Question to Ask Yourself

Where am I committed to pouring into people for the long haul so that I can see massive growth?
