2 Thoughts - Pick & Grow
Growing Leaders
Last week, I was with a client - 1,700 employees, phenomenal culture - to launch a leadership program that identifies rising leaders across the organization, gets them in a room together, and builds next-gen relationships that will carry the company forward.
We worked through behavioral analytics - understanding their wiring, learning how to communicate across differences. Then we did a Lego challenge, which my team lost, unfortunately. (Even though it was unnatural, I turned off my take-charge trait since I was a guest to the team. 😉)
#1: Develop intentionally
This company knows their current leaders won't be around forever, and it's being proactive in identifying potential and then creating a space outside of the daily grind to nurture it.
#2: Play the odds
Not every horse you bet on will win. Don't pick 1 golden child and place all your hopes on them. Plant a garden of leaders and see who thrives. (So many metaphors right there!!)
#3: Make your picks
Identify 3-5 leaders who have potential and make a plan to invest in them before the end of the year.
Want to know how to spot this talent?
There's an 8-minute assessment I give to everyone I work with. You choose some words from a list, and from it, I can tell (almost scarily so) how you're wired, what type of work you're naturally suited for, how I'll get the best results out of you, and so much more. You can do the same with your people.
