2 Thoughts - Lanes & Rhythms

Best Hires

This year brought 2 huge wins for me - Lisa and Brittany.  Lisa took over my rental property management in January.  For the first time in 4 years, our rents are current and our properties are up to date on licensing and maintenance.

Brittany joined in March as my Culture Index admin, and after three rapid fire fails in that area, I finally have a system that works. They keep me on track - not the other way around!

#1: Keep It Narrow

Their success comes from clearly defined roles.   When someone performs well, I have to resist the urge to “reward” them with more work. Let them master their lane.  A well-running machine breaks when the leader keeps tinkering.

#2: Find the Rhythm

The other key has been relentless alignment. One hour each week, we have a set meeting structure and we go piece by piece through it.  Brandon Turner once said, “The pace of my business is dictated by the frequency and quality of our meetings.” Great employees can't run (long) with absentee or unfocused leaders.

#3: One Question to Ask Yourself

What area of your business would be most freeing if you had a reliable teammate fully owning it, so all you had to do was check in once a week for confidence and clarity?
