2 Thoughts - Heal & Hurt

#1: Chasing the Hurt

"Chase the heal, not the hurt."  This quote perfectly summarized the root of a few conversations this week, so I'm pondering why we so often chase the hurt.

It must be a survival instinct to want to wallow and continue to be upset about something instead of releasing the emotions and moving toward resolution.  Perhaps our reptile brain thinks we don't "lose" or get hurt then?

Here's where this showed up:

- My 10 year old who is so focused on chore “equality” that she won’t chip in to help us get out the door to a fun thing faster.

- A fellow business owner who is so internally driven by perfectionism that he sees constant personal failure instead of business milestones.

- A leadership team with so much friction that they can’t get past the politics to make the right people decisions to hit their goals.

- 2 sister organizations where territoriality is causing polarity instead of a unified plan.

But here’s the thing - when we seek our own needs be met instead of the greater good, we don’t actually feel better.  We end up sitting in resentment and stewing in anger for unnecessary time.  We need to rewrite the idea that letting go of our personal agenda is not “losing”, but winning something bigger.

#2: One Question to Ask Yourself

Where am I feeling anger or resentment right now and how can I let it go?
