2 Thoughts - Be Consistent & Dig Deeper
#1: Digging Deeper
This weekend I ran a 5 mile race. Sometimes when I set goals I go so huge - 10x versus 2x, right? - but on this one, I wanted to prove to myself that I could put in the work to not just hit the goal, but do it well and do it sustainably.
For 8 weeks I ran 2-3 miles at a time, 4x/week. Not a big lift. The big lift was being consistent.
Come race day, I decided to try amp up the speed 10% - while also running 40% longer.
Mile after mile ticked by. I thought for sure this mile would be the last one I could hold.
But something crazy happened. Each time I hit a mile and it told me I'd held pace, I thought, "Dang. Maybe I can hold on a little longer."
I stopped thinking about the race as a whole and just focused on the next short distance. And you know what? I freaking did it. 5 miles, sub 9 minute pace. I've never done that before.
Why is this even relevant?
I'm ramping up a prospecting routine. Do you know what the definition of "prospecting" is when you look in the dictionary? "I hate this but someone promised that if I do it consistently good things will happen." That's the definition.
The plan? 10 new contacts a week, to build over 10 weeks, such that I'm hitting 100 contacts a week by the final week. It's really hard right now. I don't like it. I want the revenue, but I want to just knock it out of the park week 1 and not have to put in the consistent effort. Time to find the hard things and dig a little deeper!
#2: One Question To Ask Your Team
What should we be doing on a more regular basis to make things smoother?
